Western Governors’ Association Chair and South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard will host his colleagues, administration officials and special guests at the 2018 WGA Annual Meeting June 25-27 in Rapid City.
The Governors will participate in public roundtables on critical issues facing the West, including land management, environmental challenges of wildfire, battling the opioid epidemic and more. Gov. Daugaard will present a first-year report on his Chairman’s Initiative, the Western Governors’ Workforce Development Initiative, and the meeting will conclude with a public conversation among the First Spouses.
Iconic Mount Rushmore will serve as the backdrop for a Day 2 keynote, “Creating the American West,” by Philip Anschutz, chairman of The Anschutz Corporation and author of two books on the American West. Anschutz, whose Power Company of Wyoming is building the world’s largest wind farm in that state, owns a variety of companies, among them Anschutz Entertainment Group, which owns more than 100 arenas and concert venues worldwide.
After the keynote, meeting attendees will have the opportunity to tour the Black Hills region, including Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Memorial, among other options.
